    New Developments Bring Innovative Affordable Housing to Brooklyn

    There's good news on the horizon for New York City’s housing shortage - several high-profile projects have recently been completed across Brooklyn, bringing affordable and luxury housing options to the borough. The projects are primarily residential, and in addition to market rate or affordable housing, several of the buildings offer unique amenities to tenants. 

    Here’s a closer look at the buildings set to open doors and bring exciting new housing options to Brooklyn tenants: 

    The Starling 

    The Starling, a six-story residential building at 66 Monitor Street in Jersey City, has completed construction and will soon open for tenants. Alpine Residential and Fields Grade developed the building, which plans to offer 39 units ranging from studios to three-bedrooms. Tenants can look forward to luxury amenities that include a rooftop lounge, fitness center, coworking spaces, and even a golf simulator. The Starling is part of the Bergen Lafayette Collection, a mixed-use development that will include nearly 1,000 apartments. The property is also transit-oriented, located conveniently near the Liberty State Park NJ Light Rail Station.

    Atlas 

    Atlas, a 24-story residential tower at 270 Johnston Avenue in Jersey City, is officially open and leasing up. The property was also developed by Alpine Residential and Fields Grade, and will offers 169 rental units, including studios to three-bedroom layouts. While located in Jersey City, the apartments will offer tenants a true New York city experience with views of landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. The property is amenity-rich, with a fiitness center, coworking space, and a rooftop deck with a plunge pool. The building is located near Liberty State Park and offers convenient access to New York City.

    Brownsville, Brooklyn 

    The GMDC Brownsville Industrial Center and Bridge Rockaway in Brownsville, Brooklyn, opened recently, offering residents a mixed-use residential and industrial space. The development includes a 39,000-square-foot industrial space with ten affordable units for light manufacturing and 174 units of affordable housing. The residential portion prioritizes formerly homeless seniors, veterans, and individuals with mental illness. The project, which took nearly eight years, is a collaboration between several organizations and aims to provide job opportunities and housing for the community. In addition to affordable housing, the project is expected to provide 35 direct jobs and additional indirect jobs as well as investment.
