The Bay Area is making strides towards addressing its growing affordable housing crisis thanks to the efforts of leading affordable housing developers. This year, several major residential projects are underway, offering hope for low-income individuals and families seeking sustainable places to live around the city. Here is a look at some of the projects addressing the area's acute need for quality affordable housing.
Hayward Welcomes Affordable Housing Complex
Affordable housing developer, EAH Housing, has recently broken ground on a 76-unit housing complex for low-income seniors and homeless residents in Hayward. The project will include two four-story apartment buildings, with 65 apartments built for low-income seniors and 15 for formerly homeless individuals. It is expected to be completed in 2025 and aims to increase access to sustainable, affordable housing in the area.
Santa Clara Funds Affordable Housing Projects
Santa Clara County has recently approved $17.4 million to construct 300+ homes for low-income individuals and families. Funding for the project comes from Measure A, a voter-approved bond measure that supports affordable housing in Santa Clara County. Danco Group is developing the affordable housing project, split into three properties at 777 West San Carlos, 551 Keyes, and 1860 Alum Rock.
Mercy Housing California's Affordable Housing Projects
Nonprofit developer, Mercy Housing California, has recently completed two affordable housing projects to provide sustainable homes for people exiting shelters or experiencing homelessness. The first project, located at 1064 Mission St., was financed through Title V and is now the largest permanent supportive housing development in San Francisco. The second project, Hacienda Heights, is a 150-unit multifamily housing development in Richmond completed by Mercy last year.
